Profile of Monika

I am a postgraduate in Physics from IIT Mandi. I look forward to working as a tutor with my expertise in physics and mathematics. I love teaching when students are curious and my classes are interactive. I give complete freedom for students to ask questions and then further delve into more profound theories and co-relate with practical and day-to-day scenarios. I work with students of all types, from students whose concepts are weaker to highly bright students. If you are interested in tutoring, feel free to connect with me. I hope to work with you soon!!

Post Graduation M.Sc. Physics Indian Institute of Technology Mandi
Graduation B.Sc. Hons. Physics University of Delhi

Academic Accomplishments

I have always been fascinated that Physics is the closest we have to explaining the logical reasoning behind almost all natural phenomena. Since my school days, I have enjoyed solving various physical and mathematical problems, which helped me develop analytical thinking and better understand how things unfold in nature. This childhood fascination determined my undergraduate studies and, I must say, my path in life.

In 2015, I joined the physics department for my under-graduation (B.Sc. Hons. Physics) at the prestigious University of Delhi, where I was introduced to the world of quantum mechanics, which was intimidating yet fascinating. I was also involved in various discussions with my professors about exploring problems that do not support analytical approaches. My institute provided many platforms to regularly interact with the researchers through seminars and conferences. These interactive sessions kept me updated on the recent developments in quantum mechanics and helped me focus my interest on advanced quantum mechanics and its applications.

To appease my curiosity and gain insight into the research work, I went ahead for my master's in physics. I finally paved my way to the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi through firm conviction and determination. I followed a brilliant curriculum that gave me a strong background in many-body quantum systems and their statistical characteristics.

I am recently working on a project evaluating Weyl semimetals' topological and magnetic properties.

Professional Achievements

I started my research journey under Prof. Girish Sharma at IIT Mandi with a review project (Post Graduate project-1) titled 'Applications of Quantum Field Theory in Condensed Matter Physics.' The project gave me an idea about the importance of mathematical modeling in research.

In my final year, I carried out Post Graduate Project-2 again with Prof. Sharma, where I solved one dimensional Ising model with spin -1/2 and spin-1 lattice systems. The spin-1/2 case was solved analytically, while the spin-1 case was solved using numerical methods due to its analytical complexities. I learned that quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and statistical physics play an essential role in understanding a large assembly of electrons and nuclei.

I am currently working as an external project intern under the supervision of Dr. Girish Sharma at the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi. The project is related to anisotropic 3-D Quantum Hall Effect and magneto transport in Weyl semimetals. Topological effects drive phenomena such as Quantum Hall Effect and various materials. And the topological revolution has taken place in quantum materials on a broad spectrum.

My Teaching Philosophy

  1. I make learning interesting.
  2. I make it a point that students do more practice of what they learnt.
  3. I make concepts in small modules and explain each concepts for students to understand.
